Kids pack a punch or two

Jan. 25: Enthusiastic young karatekas from across Bengal came under the spotlight at the third annual Alsoc West Bengal Inter-School Karate championship 2017, in association with TTIS , 91.9 Friends FM and All India Seishinkai Shito-ryu Karate-Do Federation. More than 1,100 students from 120 state schools took part in the competition hosted by Alsoc , held on the primary section campus of St. Xavier's Collegiate School.

Guests get a kick out of Chuck Norris bash with Chinese New Year theme

Guest at Wednesday's Kickstart Kids event, held at the River Oaks home of Alice and Keith Mosing , got a real kick out of the evening. The event, which featured a “Chinese New Year” theme in honor of the upcoming holiday on January 28, boasted a rousing performance by a troupe of Chinese dancers, dressed in traditional dragon dance garb, who moved throughout the house and guided guests to the backyard where a group of students from Kickstart Kids gave karate demonstrations.

Stripograms allowed – but no boxing

Police brought up concerns over boxing matches being held in the Beancross Hotel but the owners claimed they had no plans to hold any such events. At a meeting of Falkirk Council's licensing board last week, representatives of the Hannigan Hotels-owned Beancross Hotel, in West Beancross, Polmont, put forward a proposal to vary the establishment's premises licence so it could change its opening hours on a Sunday from 12.30pm to 11am.
