Vernon Valley Karate hosts Winterfest tournament

The Vernon Valley Karate Academy hosted its annual Winterfest Karate Tournament on Jan. 21 at the PAL facility before a large crowd of proud parents and spectators. Students from the academy performed in a karate competition that included both Kata , Kumite , and Kobuto (demonstrating skill using ancient Okinawan weapons.

Tan bags two karate golds

ATSUKO Kaiyel Tan of Davao Christian High School clinched two of the four gold medals that the Association for the Advancement of Karate -Davao hauled in the just-concluded Manuel Veguillas Memorial Karate Cup formerly Adidas International Karate Cup held at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City. The team also bagged two silvers and 14 bronzes in the just-concluded Manuel Veguillas Memorial Karate Cup formerly Adidas International Karate Cup held at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City.

Martial arts champion using experiences to inspire Guelph youth

Nathan Skoufis entered the world of martial arts at the young age of six. Since then, he's accumulated 13 world titles, opened his own business, and attended the University of Guelph full-time, all at the young age of 23. Skoufis is no stranger to the community that surrounds Guelph : he attended Aberfoyle Public School before heading to Centennial CVI.

Former karate champion continues humanitarian pilgrimage
